This has got to be one of the best buys for an electro-acoustic out there today. I know a bit about guitars – I started playing in 1955 when I was five years old and since then I have owned and played them all – Gibsons, Fenders, Gretches, a Vox, Zemaitis and old Epiphonesand Hofners and I can honestly say that my grandson`s semi-acoustic would sound really good up on any stage with any of them.
Congratulations to Thomann for selling this ultra high quality solid-top electro-acoustic guitar at such a reasonable price and enabling young students to learn on the best. I lost count of the number of friends who gave up on learning to play the guitar because they thought that it was their fault that their efforts sounded so bad – they didn`t realise that the shops were busy selling rubbish that were built all wrong [ frets in the wrong place, bridges in the wrong place etc. etc.]. None of that with Thomann – they did us proud !! I am VERY pleased and you should hearmy grandson play now – sweet !!

The guitar came within 5 day to my home in Birmingham, UK and was in perfect condition. The guitar sounds absolutely fantastic with a rich tone. It’s easy to play and is great value for its price; i’m very happy with my purchase. The only thing that might let it down is that the great sound is somewhat diminished when plugged into an amp. Even so, would still buy again!

The action is lighter and lower than you’d expect from an acoustic, so while this is still a guitar that likes to be strummed, it’s great for finger pickers as well.
The groover machine heads feel smooth as butter and stay in tune very well. The preamp system sounds great after you fiddle with the knobs for a while and find the "right" sound for yourself.
I love it and highly recommend it to anyone wanting a quality instrument at an affordable price.

When you pick up the guitar, you can feel the sturdy construction. the sound coming from the guitar is huge, very balanced between bass and mid-range notes. Stings height is low thus making the playing really easy. Guitar has both mono and stereo plugs for jacks so integration with a mixer or recording interface is really easy.
For me this guitar was an upgrade from a mid range Ibanez and the difference is massive.
Absolutely love the guitar and the full feel it has!

Early days yet to say how the Dove will sound in a band- but the overall build and sound excellent. Loud bright and full of tone.
Set up quite well- but lowered the bridge slightly. Neck pretty straight.
The biggest issue was the badly finished frets which I have now polished 3 times and they are a lot smoother now. They were not polished before packing and I don’t know how the guitar passed quality control.
Fretboard was dry -but a couple of coats of lemon oil has helped address that.
Switched strings to my usual Martin custom lights and it’s now ready to play.
Plastic bridge saddle a little cheap looking and a little loose-an obvious upgrade on the cards.
Electrics seem to work well and I personally like the simplicity of one tone/one volume.
Nice quality tuners.
A little closer to orangeburst rather than violinburst -but that will change/fade with time.
Once played in solid top should only improve.
So despite a few issues quite impressive value for money.

I was in for a big surprise upon reception of the guitar. Well, I thought that I would get a rather low-end sounding guitar but, as for other reviews, my ears have been delighted. Even the strings are very good, I still did not change them.
The neck is a delight by itself.
The note accuracy is impressive for this budget !
The pickup is crap to my taste, thus I would rather have taken the model without pickup and spent my euros otherwise.
The setup was ridiculous (string height about 5mm!) upon reception. I removed the bridge to find the pickup sensor just below it. SInce I hate the pickup, I simply removed the sensor, this alone brought a height gain of about 2mm. It seems the bridge is not designed to be on top of this sensor… Anyway to finish it up I just had to file down approx. 1 mm of the bridge. Now the setup is good to go.

The biggest but i think minimal counter is that the epiphone icon unsticks and it where loose even when i opened it. I took it off and i think it even looks better but it is in fact a slip from the epiphone .

They guitar is very well made and due to the wood’s used, quite heavy, plus it is offered at a low price considering the quality of the woods used and build quality
By enlarging the lower boute, it gives the guitar more of a Dreadnaught sound, which is not to my taste, I much prefer the well balanced tone’s from a proper slope shouldered guitar, however that is personal, the reader should try the instrument for themselves.
Action: Epiphone Guitars always had slim necks and very easy action. On the AJ220 the neck is unvarnished, having a Satin finish giving a smooth movement up and down the fretboard. However, the guitar will not fit in an standard case due to the increased length of the headstock, So I am searching for a case for my AJ220
The guitar was delivered well packaged and on time as usual from Thomman. The AJ220VS is excellent value for money, and outmatches Guitars at 4 or 5 times the cost.
