Review and Demo of the Yamaha FG800M Acoustic Guitar

Some comments from people who come to the forum about this model:

Comment:

Probably the cheapest guitar you can get to have "the" tone. Solid top makes a world of a difference. It really does sound a lot better because of it, no matter if you believe in tonewoods or not.

Guitar was shipped high relatively high string action, no fault of Thomann though as Yamaha always sets up their acoustic a little higher out of the box.

My piece went through a fret polish and complete setup to lower the action, I play mostly fingerstyle so I really needed that. I had a luthier install a piezo/internal mic Fishman system and this is likely to be my primary acoustic for years to come.

If you are willing to spend a little more than the absolute cheapest acoustic, you will be glad you did in this case.

Being poor all my life, I’ve owned a lot of budget acoustic guitars, but this one is the best by miles. It is very well made e.g. the fretwork is immaculate, and it plays great right out the box without having to do any setup whatsoever. It stays in tune extremely well and the sound is very nice for what you pay.

Received this guitar well packed and was shipped fast.
I unboxed the guitar and you could smell the lacquer, the guitar came straight from the factory to Thomann and within a few days, it is in my hands. The guitar was out of tune out of the box, but that is expected, however, I was blown away by the sound as soon as I started tuning the guitar. Tuners are precise and they are engaging right. After tuning it to standard E, a slight adjustment of the neck was necessary, few turns and the guitar was all set. The first chord I played and I literally got goosebumps. The sound so balanced with rich overtones, consistent over all strings and frets, and yes, no buzzing frets. My fingers are pretty sore right now since I couldn’t put it down for the rest of the day. The craftsmanship is out of this world, my 1500 USD Les Paul had more flaws than this one, and Yamaha had NONE! In conclusion, I expected a great product because it took me some time to pick the acoustic guitar and I did some research, but I was BLOWN AWAY! Get it, you won’t regret it!

This is a review of the Yamaha FG830 NT.
Had one these popular Dreadnoughts many years ago and foolishly parted with it. Always missed it. With Yamaha’s 2016 release of the 50th year anniversary models, the time was right for me the buy again.
The 2016 FG830 has improved the build with Scalloped Bracing and rosewood back and sides. Looks wise, the binding is of a vintage cream colour and the sound hole features abalone inlay. The instrument looks beautiful and is finished to a high standard. Mine was nicely set-up right out of the box. Playability is fantastic. Modern slim neck, satin finish, plays fast and easy. Sound is where the FG830 shines. This is a lot of quality tone for the price. The Dynamic range is very impressive. It has the boomy low end you would expect but its high end is crisp and clear. The mids are also great, the rosewood and the new bracing giving a round nice punch.
This is "the number 1 sold acoustic guitar of all time" with good reason. Highly recommended.
