Comment:

I have been a Thomann customer for a few years now and have often looked at Harley Benton guitars when searching for a new purchase. I have seen some videos on Youtube and, at least in those reviews, they sounded like nice instruments. I recently sold a guitar and decided to replace it with a Harley Benton. I looked at the solid top selection but most had a laminate back and sides. Then I came upon the CLD-30SCM SolidWood. I checked the pound sterling price and it was under £220. I thought at that price it would not be wonderful, but Thomann have a very good returns policy so I thought I would give it a try. It arrived in only 4 days. When I opened the box the first thing I noticed was how light in weight it is, less than 4lbs (1.8kg). This is the lightest acoustic I have ever picked up. I examined the guitar thoroughly and found a couple of blemishes. One seems to be like a finger print in the finish on the back and one is a light dip in the wood on the top. Neither are noticeable unless you look very closely – and now after a few days I even have to look close to find them. The guitar is set up almost perfectly for me with a lowish action and well cut nut. The frets are well finished, the satin finish all over is excellent with tortie binding nd Grover machines. On the inside there are no signs of glue etc and all the struts appear to have been well cut and sanded smooth. The top is cedar. I have never had a cedar top acoustic before so I was interested to see how that performed. The grain is straight and wide like the picture on the website, beautiful! The neck feels just right and comfortable in the hand. It states on the web site specifications that it has a 45mm nut and I was a little concerned that this would be too wide. However, it is not 45mm it is more like 44mm (that 1mm makes all the difference). So it is very comfortable to play. The tone is super and I can only compare it to a USA made Martin DX1 I owned a few years ago – it is that good. I think it has every likelihood of opening up into a great sounding guitar. I cannot recommend this guitar highly enough – it is a super guitar for the price and anyone who buys one will be pleased with it. It is a quality made instrument with a very nice tone. I can now say I have become a real fan of Harley Benton guitars and I am happy to recommend them in acoustic guitar forums and websites (in fact I have already done so). Harley Benton should make some other all solid woood acoustics, perhaps rosewood back and sides. I am sure they would sell really well I have just one wish – I’m a big fan of round shouldered dreadnoughts (like Gibsons) and I hope that Thomann will one day have a round shouldered dread (like a J45) made by Harley Benton so I can add that to my collection, that would really be fantastic.

I just bougth it recently and I am very satisfied. It is a very nice guitar, setup was great right out of the box. Sound is sweet and what you would expect from this combination of tonewoods, workmanship is great, there are no visible flaws in finish and other details. Simply a great guitar.
