My collection was lacking a Strat and so having seen all the positive revues, thought at this price, rude not to.

Pros – Build and finish quality, okay. Set-up out of the box, pretty good. The neck profile seems pretty slim and I find it very playable. The fret ends and leveling are good. And the sound is great, I’m getting the various Strat tones from the 5-way I was hoping for, but with a nice depth of tone as well.

Cons – The poor quality pick guard lets the whole aesthetic down, which I anticipated and so ordered a Thomann Pearl guard at the same time. So when changing them over you find that inside, the atempt at insulating paint was extremely half-hearted, additional drill holes where they missed. A very open grain on the fretboard and really rough frets, made bending notes unpleasent. The neck seems to have no finish, though fine, has a budget / crude feel.

So, having oiled the fretboard loads, the grain has closed up. Polished the frets. Oil-Finished the neck/headstock. Changed the pickguard. Filed the nutslots. Tweaked the action… I am very happy. The guitar plays well and sounds great – to my ear.

Good value and lots of fun, but I’d consider it a bit of a project – which can be rewarding in itself ?

Comment:

If you are just starting off playing the electric guitar, this an unbeatable value proposition.

The edges of the fretboard are nicely finished and the frets themselves are cut cleanly with no burrs to knick your hands while you play, a common problem on cheaper guitars.

The neck is a lovely satin finish which makes for very comfortable playing and stops sweaty hands from dragging on the neck.

As for sound, it sounds far better than a guitar of this price has any right to and the limiting factor in this equation is 100% my own skill (or lack there of).

It has no problem holding tune as the bridge and nut were well set up from the factory even when attempting heavy bends. The only area it falls short is if you attempt heavy divebombs using the tremelo, it sometimes does not go quite back in tune, but if you are doing that, you may wish to look at a Floyd Rose guitar.

It is a SSS style strat so if you are a fan of heavier rock you may wish to go for the HSS version of this guitar, but that is ultimatly down to your personal preference.
