Comment:

The guitar arrived well packed and well set up; being out of tune for shipping, but once tuned only minimal correction was needed for intonation. The drawback being that the only hex that came with the guitar was for the truss rod and not the smaller hexes for intonation etc. That’s really the only major negative. Minor gripes were that the fret ends could do with a polish. No buzz, but the frets themselves were a little rough – no problem on a guitar in this price range and they will improve on playing or a little TLC.

The fit and finish were otherwise great (the black burst is very attractive in the flesh). Thomann customer service was very efficient, as was shipping.

Ibanez are routinely criticised for having weak pickups on their stock guitars, but I found these humbuckers worked well in clean, dirty and distorted modes. May upgrade them later, but they give good tones from the start. Tuners seem to work ok, but they’re not amazing. Neck feels good, but is by no means a wizard. Electronics seem sound.

Not sure why this model isn’t more popular; it’s a bit of a hidden gem. And if you’re looking for a LP style guitar without the price tag, then this is certainly worthy of consideration.

Comment:

I very much like playing it, it’s really easy and comfy to play. There are some things I would have liked differently about it. But for the price I’ve been very satisfied with it.

The fret-board could be of greater quality, but I find that if you lube it up once in a while its fine and I have no complains really.

I find the part of the guitar at the bridge to be a bit ill suited for palm muted play, but you can still pull it off, just other "designs" are probably easier and better for it.

Signal comes in hot and easily distorts, so setting your levels on the guitar and audio interface, and your daw/mixer goes a long way to get whatever kind of "sound"/style you’re going for.

You could also upgrade it with other pickups etc. I might try that some day. But for the price its a good well featured guitar, you can adjust and intonate the guitar with the bridge/tuning system, access to truss rod, adjust pick up distances. I like the looks of it, its ergonomically really good. And just easy to hold around the neck and play swiftly on. 😉
